Text Box: Guitar for Divine Infant Parish

And, here is the back, with all braces glued on and shaped (9 in total including the 4 lateral braces and the five flat braces that support the centre seam—where the two back halves are glued together). You can see that the back bracing looks quite a bit different from the soundboard bracing. The back bracing is more for strength, whereas the soundboard bracing has to make the soundboard both strong and resonant at the same time (i.e., allow it to “ring” in response to the vibrations from the the strings).  All of the bracing is quarter-sawn spruce on both back and front. The back plate itself is Indian Rosewood. As with the soundboard plate, the final dimensions of the back will not be as big as this picture suggests. After being glued onto the sides, the back will be reduced in size by about one-half inch all around.
