The soundboard (the guitar top), more so than any other part of the guitar determines the quality of the sound. Solid wood quarter-cut sitka spruce is an excellent choice for a steel-string acoustic. Engelmann spruce is also a good choice. For a softer sound you may choose a cedar top (more often found on classical guitars). Fir and mahogany can also be used for the soundboard. |

There are many possible choices of wood for the sides and back of your guitar. Mahogany, walnut, and cherry are good choices. For a more traditional look, go with Indian rosewood. And, to really get the attention of your audience, choose figured maple for the sides and back and watch the audiences’ jaws drop. |

Inlayed pearl is one of the most beautiful ways to personalize your guitar. Whether the shimmering white of Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) or the more dramatic coloured Abalone pearl, nothing is more striking on a guitar than professional-quality inlay work. Click here for more examples. |
